The Social Media Philosophy Project is a collective effort by members of the social media community which attempts to explore the philosophical implications of social technologies.

The kinds of questions considered:

  1. What does it mean to be “ethical” online?
  2. Does social media blur the lines of the traditional public versus private divide?
  3. What is the relationship between our social presence and our sense of personal identity?

We use the very thing we study, using this blog, microblogs like Twitter and Plurk, vlogs like Seesmic and YouTube, interactions in virtual worlds like Second Life and There, and any other means social media makes available to us.
